Position Overview

Ledgent Finance & Accounting is currently seeking a Payroll Manager for a contract role to cover a maternity leave. This position is based in California and plays a crucial role in overseeing the entire payroll process. The Payroll Manager ensures employees are paid accurately and on time, while also ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations. This role involves managing and maintaining payroll records, payroll processing, calculating taxes and deductions, and working closely with HR and Finance/Accounting departments. The Payroll Manager will report to the Head of Total Rewards & Wellness. WORK FROM HOME ON FRIDAYS!

Responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of employee earnings, deductions, and tax information.
  • Ensure accurate calculation of federal, state, and local taxes, as well as deductions for benefits, retirement plans, and other contributions.
  • Stay up-to-date with and adhere to all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Work closely and collaborate with HR and Finance/Accounting teams to ensure smooth payroll operations and resolve any related issues.
  • Process equity stock payments.
  • Process bonuses and commissions.
  • Process and enter 401(k) contribution changes, loans, Roth, etc.
  • Set up new state taxes as needed.
  • Prepare and provide various payroll reports for auditing and other purposes.
  • Investigate and resolve any payroll issues or discrepancies.
  • Handle W2 preparation and distribution, as well as other year-end payroll tasks.
  • Conduct regular payroll audits to ensure compliance with laws and regulations and data integrity.
  • Prepare quarterly, weekly, and yearly reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • No supervisory duties.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in payroll management and processing.
  • Relevant professional certification in payroll management, such as Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred.

Competencies/Technical/Functional Skills

  • Strong payroll knowledge and understanding of payroll procedures, tax laws, and compliance regulations.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to meet strict payroll deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong proficiency with payroll software - experience with Paycom is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of multi-state payroll processing.
  • Familiarity with accounting and finance principles and practices related to payroll.
  • Maintain confidentiality and data security standards for all payroll-related information.

Pay Range: $40-45 p/h depending on experience.
